AI and Jobs: Are You Ready?

Sitting across the table in interview rooms—these days more often as the interviewer than the interviewee—I’m constantly struck by how unprepared some candidates are. Sometimes it’s nerves, other times it’s a lack of clear, well-thought-out responses, and often, it’s simply not doing the homework. Each interview room has its own dynamics, but today I want to speak directly to beginners—those new to tech and preparing for their first interviews. Some experts warn that AI’s rapid growth in 2025 could lead to the replacement of certain tech jobs. While that may eventually happen, I still see job ads every day. The opportunities are real, and now is not the time to retreat—but to adapt and engage. My advice? Don’t shy away from AI—use it responsibly. As a developer, AI can be your best support tool—but it should never replace your judgment. Some candidates send in AI-generated emails or cover letters that feel overly formal, robotic, and clearly unedited. You can almost hear the machine behind the message. AI should be a co-pilot, not your substitute. Always review, edit, and personalize anything AI helps you create. How to Win in Today’s Interviews Here are practical strategies to help you stand out:
  1. Create a question bank. List common interview questions—including ones you’ll ask your interviewers. Use AI to generate and refine this list.
  2. Draft thoughtful answers. Use AI to brainstorm responses—but make sure they reflect your voice. Edit heavily.
  3. Do mock interviews. Practice with mentors, peers, or experts in your field. Real-time feedback is gold.
  4. Refine your answers. Iterate based on the feedback. Clarity and authenticity win interviews.
  5. Research the company. Understand their mission, culture, products, and recent news. Show genuine interest.
  6. Find past candidates. If you know someone who has interviewed at the company, ask what to expect.
  7. Prepare company-focused questions. Show curiosity by asking about values, vision, and recent projects.
  8. Demonstrate values through examples. Write down to remember events in your life where you have shown the following:
    • Customer focus and empathy
    • Integrity
    • Proactive problem-solving
    • Respect for people
    • Continuous learning
  9. Showcase your projects. In tech, bring at least four well-documented projects that highlight relevant tools, skills, and your personal contribution.
Your key milestone is simple: Pass the interview. The bigger goal? Grow into a tech professional who can thrive in an AI-powered future. So, I ask again: Are you ready? Yours truly, Olu Pipelines of Code
